Thomas S. Smith, Ph.D. is Professor of Wildlife Ecology in the Department of Plant and Wildlife Sciences at Brigham Young University, USA. He has more than three decades of experience in wildlife research, conservation, and management, having previously served as a Research Wildlife Ecologist with the U.S. Geological Survey and as a Wildlife Biologist with the U.S. National Park Service. His research focuses on the ecology and conservation of large mammals, particularly bears and wild sheep, with an emphasis on human-wildlife conflict, species conservation, and behavioral ecology.

Dr. Smith has authored more than 80 scientific publications and book chapters and has collaborated on conservation projects across North America, Europe, and Asia. His work has contributed to improving bear safety practices, polar bear conservation, and coexistence between people and wildlife.

He is committed to advancing science-based conservation and training the next generation of wildlife professionals.
